La France devant l'Allemagne
[France Ahead of Germany]
by Georges Clemenceau

Paris: Librairie Payot & Cie
1918

SIGNED and inscribed by the former French Prime Minister Clemenceau at the top of the title page near his name.

Condition: Hardcover in a lovely binding that I'm guessing is relatively contemporary to the time of publication, the original book would have been softcover, as evidenced by the blue-toned page in the front and back and that those are the only pages with noticeable discoloration from general handling. Spine is covered in leather with bright gilt titles and four raised bands, marbled paper covers are rubbed a bit along the edges and corners. Decorated endpapers. Interior is overall unmarked, very minor general darkening to the pages, and binding remains firm.

wiki: "Georges Benjamin Clemenceau (28 September 1841 – 24 November 1929) was a French statesman who served as Prime Minister of France from 1906 to 1909 and again from 1917 until 1920. A key figure of the Independent Radicals, he was a strong advocate of separation of church and state, amnesty of the Communards exiled to New Caledonia, as well as opposition to colonisation. Clemenceau, a physician turned journalist, played a central role in the politics of the Third Republic, most notably successfully leading France through the end of the First World War."
