There is an intriguing but puzzling inscription on the front blank page: "Mrs O.W. Holmes, From her friend, M.C. Knight Dec 25th, 1861". Why Mr Knight would be gifting her a book written by her husband is uncertain.
Illustrated.
Condition: Hardcover; no dust jacket. Cover boards are worn/rubbed along edges and corners, most obvious wear to spine ends and back edge of the spine wear the fabric is pulling away, spine faded. Front-free endpaper missing. Front section up to page 3 is loose but still mostly held by the stitching, binding is strained in a few places. Pages are somewhat darkened but only limited amount of foxing/spotting apparent.
