SIGNED and inscribed by Spear on ffep, and dated March 1911.
Condition: Softcover, with minor to moderate general outer wear, some document repair tape to front spine edge. Front cover has become unglued long since from the ffep, but still firmly glued to the spine. Previous owner's armorial bookplate on inside cover. There are some pencil marks in the margins scattered throughout, and small note on title page under the author's name: ..."of Spear Middleton Donaldson and Spear. Patent Attorney. Washington DC." Contains a frontispiece portrait of Spear and a few illustrations, including one of their traveling party in Egypt in front of the Sphinx and pyramids, with the ladies riding camels. Binding remains secure.

On April 10, 1866, the United States Senate confirmed President Andrew Johnson's February 24, 1866 nomination of Spear for appointment to the grade of brevet brigadier general to rank from April 9, 1865. He was United States Commissioner of Patents in 1877–1878."
