History of England from the Fall of Wolsey to the Defeat of the Spanish Armada
Reign of Elizabeth, Volume VI
by James Anthony Froude
New York: Charles Scribner and Company, 1870.
Condition: The volume number on the spine is 12, however on the title page it is noted as Volume VI, presumably the sixth volume in the series covering the reign of Queen Elizabeth.
This antiquarian hardcover is in very good condition, with some scuffing and edge wear. The gilt on the spine is still bright and legible. Three-quarters leather, with marbled paper covers, and beautifully marbled page edges and endpapers. A very handsome book. On the first blank page there is a stamp from a previous owner, otherwise the book is clean and unmarked. Also at that page is evident that the front endpaper has pulled away from the main text block, but this does not affect the integrity of the binding in any way.
Also included is a separate notebook page with a beautifully handwritten, likely contemporary to 1870s, list of the kings and queens of England, up to Queen Elizabeth.
